More about Eisenhower Dollar
The Eisenhower dollar is a one dollar coin that was issued between 1971 and 1978 in the United States. Though commonly confused, it is not the same as the Eisenhower commemorative dollar that was issued in 1990. This coin is composed of copper and nickel and is well known for its size and weight as it is one of the heavier and larger coins made which is part of the reason why it was only issued for almost eight years. This being said, it is still a great collector's item and still held in high regard.
This coin was created to commemorate Dwight D. Eisenhower who passed away in 1969. These have been used mostly as collectables especially by casinos and were not really used for its monetary value. These coins can be purchased in many locations including online. They are not restricted to being sold at shops that specialize in coins but can be found in larger general market places as well. Although to find one for a good price might take a little bit of work, one can find them on bidding networks which might be a good choice. The coins from 1971 and 1972 were not in the mint or proof sets but those that are silver-nickel clad were available from circulation.
