More about Franklin Half Dollar

The Franklin half dollar, otherwise known as the 'Franklin Half' is a fifty cent piece from the United States that was minted between the years of 1948 and 1963. On one side there is a picture of Benjamin Franklin and on the other, a picture of the Liberty Bell. There has been an eagle placed beside the bell despite the fact that Franklin didn't agree with the eagle for a symbol of America but preferred the turkey instead, however it was placed there by law.

Between the years that this coin was minted, over 500 million of them came into existence. There were those without a mintmark which were made in Philadelphia, those with a 'D' were minted in Denver, while those with an 'S' were minted in San Francisco. Although there were a great number of these coins made, there were also many that have been melted, especially during 1964 when its intrinsic value was worth more than the actual coin.

Now this piece is a part of American history, and is collected by people all over the world possibly because it is still quite affordable in terms of collectable coins. These coins can be found in coin shops and in many other places both online and offline.
