The Kennedy half dollar was minted in the United States in 1964 which was a year after John F. Kennedy was assassinated. On one side it features the face of the Kennedy and the other side features the eagle. The 1964 version of the coin is made from ninety percent silver but was changed to be only silver-clad in 1964 meaning that these are only forty percent silver instead. The circulation coin changed yet again in 1971, taking away the silver and creating a coin that was clad in copper and nickel.

There are other versions of this coin including the Bicentennial half dollar which is dated 1776-1976 which were made in 1975-1976. The circulation and proof version is made from the copper-nickel clad composition however the uncirculated and proof editions that are created to be included in the sets are made from forty percent silver. Collectors should be aware that the proof sets that were put into the market for the public in 1992 include this coin in the original composition of 1964.

This coin represents a great era in American history and although the coin is quite valuable in terms of money, the historical value seems to be the higher of the two.
