More about Liberty Half Dollar

The Liberty half dollar coin was minted in the United States between the years 1916 to 1947 as a silver half dollar which has the face value of fifty cents. The coin was named after the picture that is featured on the obverse side of the coin said to represent Liberty. Both sides of the coin were designed by Alolph A. Weinman. This coin was to replace the Barber half dollar which was quite unpopular and even made fun of. This coin of Weinman's was one of three that took away the traditional uniform design that was engrained within the coins made by America ever since the mint first opened in 1793.

Three American mints were involved in the production of this coin, and these three were the Philadelphia, the Denver and the San Francisco mints. The first bears no mintmark but the other two display a 'D' and an 'S' respectively. There is one main error noted in the series. More specifically the 1946-P (the coins minted in 1946 in Philadelphia) has a reverse Doubled die which has made this particular coin increase in value more than the others. Other than this, there are other coins that have been made in limited quantities that are also quite valuable such as the 1916-S and the 1917-D just to name two of them.
