More about Silver Eagle

The silver eagle was released by the United Stated Mint In November of 1986 and is the official silver bullion coin of America. While it has a face value of one dollar it is almost completely made from silver, standing at 99.9%. While the bullion type of coin was started in 1986 and is presently still being minted, the proof of this coin was started the same year but production ceased in 2008. There were also uncirculated coins minted between 2006 and 2008.

This coin features the Walking Liberty on the obverse side and the eagle with a shield and thirteen five-pointed stars on the reverse side. The person responsible for the obverse side is a man responsible for other coin designs - Adolph A. Weinman while the reverse side was created by John Mercanti.

There have been a number of special issues of this coin put into production such as the Philadelphia Set from 1933 which was in memory of the first official United States coins in 1793 which were minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Others include the proof coin minted in 1995, and those that were minted in 2007 and 2008. There was a great demand on these coins from 2008 through to 2010 because of the recession which led the United States to put rations on coin dealers to curb the selling of these items.
